MOORE RESOLUTIONS CALL FOR REAL REFORM
June 17, 2009

The Michigan Legislature could only meet between Feb. 1 and May 15 and lawmakers' compensation would be cut in half under a proposed constitutional amendment that state Rep. Tim Moore hopes voters will have the chance to decide on at the 2010 election. Joint Resolution W also removes members of the Michigan Legislature from the State Officers Compensation Commission list for currently determining the lawmakers' wage and expense allowance levels, as well as for the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state and supreme court justices. Under the resolution, representative and senator pay would be reduced from about $80,000 annually to $40,000 beginning in 2011. Lawmakers could be called by the governor into emergency session no more than two times during the remainder of the year. From: gophouse.com
